Comparing Your Grass

In life I get it, it's almost impossible not to notice the things others have that you don't. I get that we wish and desire for things that we see, whether it's relationships, possessions, qualities, talents, or anything in between. In all of that wishing and hoping and admiring and envying we forget to value and admire all of the same things that people see and think when they see and think of us. Your Memory may not be the greatest but nobody can organize and manage things as well as you. You may not be the fastest runner but maybe you have the sharpest mind. You might not have the biggest house or fanciest car, but you have a loving family. You may not make as much money, but you are happier in an overall sense. The point is that anytime we admire something in someone else or compare it and feel less, it is never about something we feel good about or something we know we have. It is always about something we feel insecure or inferior about, something we wish we could have or be better at. We place others on a pedestal only because we see things they are better than us at or that they have and we don't. We judge and compare based on things they are better at or have that we don't, yet fail to consider that they might be doing the same with the talents and possessions and situations of your life. They may have a fancier car but would trade it to have a loving family. They wish they could trade their speed to be just that much better at solving problems or remembering things. At the end of the day we all have insecurities, we all have shortcomings and we all wish we could have the traits and possessions of someone else at times. Your treasures are someone else's fault, instead of wishing for someone else's “grass” focus on how your garden bears its own fruits.
